The salt, sugar and ice crystals flirt with our cultural view of crystals and diamonds. Hard and rare, they stand for a value that is completely abstract in its meaning. The salt crystals do not take long to grow, are materially completely worthless and dissolve in water, but is this brief moment of their shape not perhaps what makes them valuable?
