The project »Canvas« is based on a the pursuit of individuality, which is from a sociocultural point of view one of the main reasons for our so called »lonely crowd«. »Canvas« is a somewhat ironic salution, as dirt is the paint to frame individuality with.
Due to the globalization and digitalization the stage, that you act in, became bigger and bigger in the past 20 years. In order not to lose your personal identity so called individuality becomes more and more important. »Canvas« tries to give an answer to this problem, since it is designed by the traces of use. It's a white backpack, made of two different materials. The front and back parts are made of a dirt-absorbing Material, the side parts of a water- and dirt-repellent textile. The Backpack starts as a uniform, ordinary object and collects the contacts with other materials. The front and back parts are designed by the use and change into a wild pattern, while the side parts stay white and plain, in order to keep the balance to a clean and »designed« aesthetic. By making so called dirt the colour to paint with, »Canvas« is trying to question our way of looking for individuality in products.
